In this paper, the general problem of the one dimensional pollutant scattering in the air or in water described by a parabolic partial differential equation is addressed. Two sources are considered, one of whom is operating. Source specifications can be reached through a deconvolution step and an hypothesis testing method. To prevent misdetections, an algorithm which thresholds the sensor measures and each conditional impulse response is proposed. This approach enables to minimize the number of parameters to be estimated and makes the detection reliable. The main interest lies in the joint estimation of the position and the source temporal flow.
