The method involves introducing a test signal into an input point of a network. A signal is measured in an output point of the network, where the input point and the output point are same. A pulse response is initially estimated (300) by deconvolution of the signal with a core corresponding to the test signal. A deconvolution core is estimated (301) by using the result of the initial estimation of pulse response while considering the distortions introduced by the network. A fine estimation of the pulse response is carried out (302) by the deconvolution using the core. An independent claim is also included for a reflectometry device comprising a unit for generating a test signal.
