DOES DEMING FIT YOUR LIFESTYLE? - DISCUSSION OF DEMING'S 14 POINTS IN THE UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT PARTICIPANTS

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a managerial philosophy and a commitment that conveys an organization-wide effort to excel on all dimensions of products and services that are important to the customer. In the 1950s, W. Edwards Deming, an internationally renowned consultant and statistician, was invited to Japan to redevelop its war torn economy through new principles of management. Based on his work, Deming set forth 14 points that any type of organization can implement to achieve a total quality management program.The focus of the panel discussion is whether each of Deming's 14 points applies or does not apply to the university and college academic environment. Prior to the panelists' perspectives (debate), terms such as "product", "service", "quality", "fear", and "barriers" will be formalized within the higher education environment. Audience participation is encouraged.
