SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF THE LARGEST DIESEL ENGINE POWER PLANT WITH HYUNDAI-MAN BW 12K90MC-S ENGINES.

Four(4) HYUNDAI-MAN B&W 12K90MC–S engi-neshave been used at GMR Vasavi Power Plant inChennai(Madras), India, which is now the worldlargest diesel power plant.The diesel engines of the power plant have somedifferent operating conditions especially such ashigh ambient air temperature, high humidity, verysevere grid condition and very low sulphurcontained fuel oil compared to the conventionalone, which resulted in some operating difficultiesduring running-in operation. In order to counteractthem and realize the engine maker’s intendedimprovements for customer satisfaction, variouslatest designs and new cylinder oil have beenapplied to the engines.This paper gives detailed service experience andsuccessful measures taken in order to solve theoperating difficulties and finally meet the customer’stailor-made requirements.
