In this paper, a semi-analytical method is proposed for solving the problem of one-dimensional consolidation of layered soils exhibiting rheological characteristics. Based on the method, a computer program is developed which is not only very efficient but also applicable to the case of time-dependent loading. Consolidation of a three-layered soft clay stratum under ramp loading is analyzed as a numerical example and the results are plotted into diagrams, from which some meaningful conclusions are drawn.
