A simplified design method for stabilizing piles in slopes which takes into account the safety factor of the slope and pile spacing is proposed. The non-linear characteristics of the soil-pile interaction in the stabilizing piles are modeled using the load transfer method. The Bishop's simplified method of slope stability analysis is extended to incorporate the soil-pile interaction and evaluate the safety factor of the reinforced slope. Through comparative studies, it is found that the prediction by the proposed approach is in reasonably good agreement with the general trend observed in centrifuge tests, field tests and three-dimensional finite element analysis.
