Mishap investigation is a complex process that ofteninvolves recreating the ejection event with very littlefactual information. Computer models and simulationprograms are used to provide a graphicalrepresentation of the events that occurred. A trajectoryanalysis program developed specifically for NAWCADwas integrated with a COTS 3D visualization package.The trajectory analysis software uses the final restingposition data, ejection seat performancecharacteristics, environmental data, and initial aircraftconditions data to calculate the acceleration andvelocity profiles of the ejection seat and occupantduring ejection from the disabled aircraft. The outputfiles are used as input for the visualization softwarethat depicts the aircraft, seat, and occupant as 3Dobjects and allows cameras to be placed on any singleobject or group of objects. This ultimately allows for agreater understanding of the dynamics involved duringthe ejection.
