NEW ROLLING TECHNOLOGY OF LARGE H-BEAMS WITH HIGH PRODUCTIVITY AND LOW INVESTMENT

Sumitomo Metal Industries has developed a new rolling technology for large H-beam characterized by an universal edger mill. In this technology, only 4 stands are needed to roll large H-beams. That is a breakdown mill (BD), an universal rougher mill (UR), an universal edger mill (UE) and an universal finishing mill (UF). Main reduction is done by UR and UE. In BD, forming and sizing are not done by beam-blank grooves. Only edging of continuous casting slab (C.C. Slab) or continuous casting beam-blank (C.C. Beam-blank) is carried out. So, BD roll is common for almost every H - Beam Sizes. Moreover BD stand is very compact and its motor-power is very small. As the result, large H - Beams can be easily produced with high productivity, precise dimension and low investment by using the Universal Edger Mill.
