Highly efficient cutting is especially required during rough cutting, because it must cut much removal volume. While several rough cutting methods have been developed and attempted to improve a machining efficiency, more improvement of the machining efficiency has been required continuously. This paper describes for a highly efficient rough cutting system based on Boundary-Map geometric model. In this system the authors newly propose two methods to generate tool path. First method is to create a tool path constructed by straight line. Second one is to create a tool path to minimize fluctuation of cutting load applied to cutting tool. Boundary-Map geometric model is newly developed to satisfy the functions required for practical CAM system, for example, a high-speed collision checking and an adaptation to deformation. Finally, the capabilities of this system are demonstrated by generating the tool path using each methods and executing cutting tests on a CNC machining center.
