POSSIBLE IMPACTS OF TELEWORK ON COMMUTE TRAVELS IN THE TURIN METROPOLITAN AREA

Telework-transportation tradeoff research is not much diffused in Italy, even if in this country there are some specific conditions that make this phenomenon highly unpredictable, if not properly addressed. This paper gives a short account of a research carried in Mr. Diana’s graduate thesis work, under the supervision of prof. Villa, in order to depict some feasible scenarios for the Turin metropolitan area. A survey among the Regio Council staff allowed us to collect a big amount data, that were then processed through a model recently proposed by Mokhtarian in order to assess some hypothetical telework impacts on the whole metropolitan area. After this, we tried to understand the transition phases and the benefits of a policy supporting telework development.
