MAPPING FOR LAND TYPES OF COASTLINE IN HAINAN ISLAND

摘要

Land types refers to the land units which has similar features in natural elements such as soil, vegetation, relief, hydrological and geological condition, the directions of development and its exploitation and so on. This paper will introduce the method to investigate the land types and their distribution in Hainan Island coastline. It takes Landsat TM image as the information source. The land types are divided into 6 classes and 25 second-classes according to the index including in relief, vegetation, quality of soil, width of soil layer, slope and altitude etc. Using GIS tools, the database for land types in coastline has been established. Finally it has produced the land type map at scale of 1:100,000 and the data tables. These can provide the basis for reasonable development for Hainan Island coastline.
