THE IRES ELECTRONIC SEAL

The French Support Programme for the IAEA Safeguards (FRESPAS) participated in aRemote Monitoring Project using upgraded containment/surveillance systems such asCONSULHA, EMOSS and satellite communications.In the framework of this project, the “Institut de Protection et de Sureté Nucléaire” (IPSN), isdeveloping an electronic seal so called Integrated and Reusable Electronic Seal (IRES) thatenables independent verification by different inspectors from the IAEA, Euratom andNational Inspectors. It can be remotely interrogated by radio frequency and integrated toremote monitoring by serial line RS 485. Data are authenticated and the IRESMAG softwaremanages in the seal reader all functionality of the seal and records inspection data compatiblewith the IAEA’s Seal Database.
