The method includes inserting an array of a plurality of electrodes fitted to a distal end of a catheter into a cavity within an organ of a patient. The array is brought into contact with the interior surface of the cavity. Input is received from a user, the input specifying one or more tissue segments to be ablated on the interior surface. In response to the input, using the processor, one or more pairs of electrodes in the array that will ablate the specified tissue segment when driven with an irreversible electroporation (IRE) signal are selected. Specified tissue segments are ablated by applying an IRE signal to a pair of electrodes.
