Virtual Manufacturing (VM) demands product models to reflect the essential of products, which are commonly realized to be shapes, structures, functions and performances. Considering traditional product model cannot fully satisfy this, we propose a new model framework for mechanical product. This product design model consists of two parts-product definition model and product solid model. While product solid model describes the detailed geometry information, product definition model describes the functions and behaviors of a product. PDU (Product Definition Unit), a carrier of product information in some granularity, is a key element in product definition model. In order to realize model interoperation, we use metamodeling architecture based on Semantic Unification Meta-Model (SUMM).
