X-ray spectra of neon-like and fluorine-like germanium resonance lines emitted from x-ray laser media created by irradiating solid germanium using a 3 ps duration short pulse superimposed on a 300 ps background pulse have been recorded with a KAP (2d = 26.6 A) crystal spectrometer. Pinhole images of the germanium Ne-like and F-like emission with ≈ 20 μm spatial resolution have been recorded. The Ne-like and F-like resonance lines between 7 and 10 A wavelength ranges have been modelled using a post-processor spectral line code coupled to a hydrodynamic code. The calculated emissions are compared to experimental spectra and pinhole camera images.
