Extension of the South Texas Project PRA to Secondary Plant Equipment

The purpose of this paper is to present work being performed to integrate key secondary plant systems into the South Texas Project (STP) Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA). By considering secondary, or "Balance-Of-Plant" (BOP) equipment, the time dependent variation of plant risk can be evaluated in a more rigorous manner by considering the impact of this equipment on initiating event frequency. In addition, since BOP systems dominate plant performance characteristics such as plant availability and capacity factors, consideration of monetary risk (in addition to safety risk) is consistent with the philosophy of comprehensive risk management in place at STP.
