The Intermix Models of the Slab and Billet Casters of Hoogovens Steel in The Netherlands

For BOS No. 2 of Hoogovens Steel Primary Products an on-line intermix model has been developed. The most important improvement compared to previous models is the dynamic nature of the model. The model is easily transferable, as is shown by its application to grade changes at the billet casters of BOS No. 1 and to grade changes at several other slab casters. Also, this is the first time an intermix model has been implemented on a billet caster. For BOS No. 1 the main benefit is the basic capability of combining different grades in a sequence. For BOS No. 2, where some grades were already being combined in a sequence, the main benefit is a reduction of the amount of intermixed steel.
