Factors affecting mold powder entrapment include asymmetric flow in the mold caused by clogging or eccentricity of the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) Increasing the SEN immersion depth results in more variability in the steel level. Modeling indicates that waves and vortices increase with increased casting speed and mold width, and decrease with increased immersion depth.
