Abstract: This article presents general principle and the first application of magneto-optical methods for the direct measurement of the complex magnetic permeability in the mm- wave range. The computer controlled quasi-optical spectrometer, which was used for the magneto-optical measurements in the frequency range 70 - 120 GHz, is described. The proof-of-principle experiments were conducted with a soft microwave Nickel Ferrite and with a hard Sr- Hexaferrite permanent ceramic magnet. The potential of magneto-optical methods for the accurate measurement of complex magnetic permeability in the mm-wave range was demonstrated. It was shown that the transverse magneto-optical effect can provide the reliable measurement of the initial permeability. The results of the mm-wave magneto-optical measurements are presented and discussed. !17
