Natural gas composition variations represent a potential difficulty for the reliability and the regulation optimisation of gas engine.As naturla gas characteristic influences combustion parameters,it has bene proved that gas variations in prime movers impact on pollutant emissions and reliabilty (knocking problem for example).In order to measure natural ga variations impact on piston engines,Gaz de France R&D Division set up a test witch enable to fuel a piston engine with wo different natural gases,stocked in pressurized tanks,and to controle wether or not the engine is able to admit a fueling transition from a gas to the other and to measure its specificaitons variations regardings the composition of its fuel.the purpose of this presentationwill be to detail different strategies adopted by manufacturers and to present test results carried out by GDF.
