There are three problems generally observed on extended storage of lithium/carbon monofluoride cells1. increased voltage delay2. loss in discharge capacitycell failure caused by internal corrosionLithium/carbon monofluoride (Li/CF_x) cells currently manufactured by ECO exhibit high capacities of up to 2.1 Ah in AA-size and relatively low voltage delay: these improvements result from proprietary electrode production technology. We have recently demonstrated the beneficial effect of pre-discharge of Li/CF_x cells on their rate of internal corrosion and extent of voltage delay at the discharge currents up to 350 mA (AA-size cells). Some possible causes of these beneficial effects are described as additionally supported by data obtained by galvanostatic discharge of AA-size cells before and after storage combined with impedance spectra analysis of these Li/CF_x cells.
