The concept of bioclimatic design represent reintroduction of the idea of place into design practice. Growing research procides the competent climate-esponisve design know-how nad methods for achieving a genuine environmental quality. On the other hand we witness that dominant, 'standard' design approaches to "placemaking" develop less than successful, arbitrary, contextually and socially unintegrated and unsustainable urban schemes. Author argues that proper bioclimatic urban analysis and ecological resonsibility could offer importnt directions for successful place-and culture-specific urban planning and design. Important aspect of success is an awareness of the importance of balancing genral aims of sustainability with nuances of local character, the philosophy of the new paradigm with the wisdom of particular situations.
