How did the solar houses perform in portugal?

In the last two decades several examples of passive solar constructions were built in Portugal. These buildings were designed by a samll number of professionals very interested in these new technologies, for private clients and institutions which in some case were correlated with research projects in this area (1, 2, 3). The number of projects is fairly small: twenty two buildings have been identified in the course of the project called "Thermal Characterisation of Passive Solar Construction in Portugal", on which this paper is based, as having some passive features. The a im of this project, with a planned duration of two years, is to identify these constructions and quantify their performance. We believe that the information collected will help the general building community to better understand the potential of these systems.
