Sinter hardening is rapidly gaining popularity in applications requiring high strength and high hardness immediately after sintering. This manufacturing route has proved to be cost effective for a number of parts since it eliminates the need for quenching of the parts after sintering.Prealloyed powders have proven to be useful for this purpose. For these low alloy powders, the ability to promote the formation of martensite or/and bainite during cooling after sintering is the most important facetor to optimize the microstructure and therefore the properties of the sintered parts.
