摘要

Phases I through IV of Charleston Water System’s six phase Wastewater Tunnel Master Plan included 10 miles of tunnels to replace the heavily deteriorated and impaired network of existing sewer tunnels in historic downtown Charleston. Implementation of lessons learned during design and construction of the first four phases were essential to successful design of the following phase: Phase V-West Ashley Sewer Tunnel and Influent Pump Station. This project consists of 9,500 linear feet of sewer tunnel 120 feet below ground, a 75 mgd deep underground pump station 60 feet in diameter, and an interconnecting tunnel system to two existing deep pump station wet-wells.
