The Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension includes 8.6 km of twin bored tunnel and six stations. At York University the station will be constructed adjacent to the prominent Schulich School of Business, with the two running tunnels passing directly beneath the building. This paper describes the approach used to assess the building structure and its complex existing foundations. The development and design of a compensation grouting program to protect the building from the tunnels and station excavation, is then described together with the monitoring necessary to control the grouting.
