DESIGN OF COMPENSATION GROUTING FOR TWIN TUNNELS AND A STATION IN TORONTO

The Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension includes 8.6 km of twin bored tunnelrnand six stations. At York University the station will be constructed adjacent to thernprominent Schulich School of Business, with the two running tunnels passing directlyrnbeneath the building. This paper describes the approach used to assess the buildingrnstructure and its complex existing foundations. The development and design of a compensationrngrouting program to protect the building from the tunnels and station excavation,rnis then described together with the monitoring necessary to control the grouting.
