Explosive treatment of Illinois No. 6 coal with water-organic compound mixed solvents

Illinois No. 6 coal was treated with water and cyclohexanol mixtures at 300-350°C and 5.6-6.1 MPa as pretreatments of coal liquefaction. Higher yield of treated coal was obtained by the explosive treatment, which is known to give a higher liquid yield than that by normal treatment. The higher liquefaction yield by the explosive treatment is suggested to be due to the suppression of the thermal decomposition of coal and several physical changes.
