The flexibility of both installation and operation of an electric propulsion system brings up several advantages for the Owner, but also for the Shipyard (Space saving, improved maintenance, improved propulsion efficiency, etc-). This paper reviews in details advantages brought by the system and demonstrates how diesel electric propulsion can make a more valuable ship for the same investment.
