This work considers the inverse problem where both the net radiative heat flux and temperature distributions on the design surface of a rectangular enclosure are imposed, the remaining surfaces being adiabatic. The enclosure is filled with anon-gray, absorbing, emitting, non-scattering medium, whose temperature and volumetric heat generation distributions are unknown, and have to be determined such that the two specified conditions on the design surface are attained. The heat transfer isconsidered to be purely radiative, and is evaluated by the zoning method combined with the weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model. The resulting system of equations is non-linear and ill-conditioned. It is solved by an iterative procedure, where the truncatedsingular value decomposition method (TSVD) is applied at each iteration step.
