A methodology for reducing the intial and life-cycle costs of rail-transit tunnels

The design and construction of rail tunnels involve several considerations, both technical ones and nontechnical ones. These considerations, usually made over a period of several months, will affect the performance of the tunnel for several decades. It is important, therefore, to make the right decisions during the planning and design phases of a tunnel project to insure performance that requires minimum operation and maintenance costs.
