摘要

The results that have been obtained from this study reveal the ability to significantly improve weld line properties with tooling modifications. Such property improvements included increases in tensile strength, flexural strength, and elongation. These improvements are attributed to both the glass fiber orientation and the mixing of the melt flow fronts across the weld line.The decision of which mold modification to implement is purely dependent on the part geometry and complexity of the tool. The relief tab modification will undoubtedly become the most popular choice due to the ease of adding it to a tool and the ability to remove the tab from the part without a noticeable trace of its previousexistence. However, the retracting ejector pin modification will find its use on components that do not require an aesthetic value and where the resulting embosses will not prohibit the functionality of the part.
