Clear monolithic samples and thin films of Al_2O_3-SiO_2 were prepared by the sol-gel process from alkoxides as starting materials. The effect of the composition of the initial alcoholic solutions on the gelation and the influence of the sol "age" on the formation of silica-alumina gels and materials were investigated.
