In this paper, we discuss the problem of active vibration controlof a multi-degree-of-freedom structure, such as a high-rise building,using robust decentralized simple adaptive control (RDSAC). Suchmulti-degree-of-freedom structures have inherent dynamics that can beadequately represented by mass-spring-damper subsystems. As a result, itis shown that we can achieve good vibration absorbing performanceconcerning the reduction of the effect of disturbances and interactionsby applying the RDSAC to only a few “target” subsystems ofthe plant. Stability of all signals in the vibration control system isguaranteed and the effectiveness of the proposed methods is confirmed byexperiments
