NEW COARSE TABULAR AGGREGATES FOR IMPROVED CASTABLES

The use of coarse aggregates with particle size above 10 mm is well known in the refractory industry. Raw materials used in monolithic refractories include brown and white fused alumina lumps, recycled materials, ZAC (zirconia-alumina-silica), bauxite and silicon carbide.The primary drivers for coarse aggregates in monolithic refractory products include increased wear resistance and higher thermal shock resistance. The wear resistance benefits are a result of less matrix fines needed, which in turn offers a cost reduction of castable formulations.
