Microwave heating is one of the internal heating methods. When sample was exposed to microwave, it would sometimes be heated to high temperatures. The level of temperature depends on sample itself and refractories around it. If there are no refractories around the sample, or the refractories are not heated by microwave, then the temperature of the sample would not be uniform. The temperature at the surface of sample would be lower than the temperature at the center of sample. On the other hand if the refractoires were heated to higher temperature than the sample, then it would not be internal heating; the advantage of internal heating is lost and it is external heating. Consequently, it is ideal if the temperature of refractories during the exposure to microwave is the same as the temperature of sample.
