Some real time observations by the PEEM of surface reactions are discussed. In particular results from reaction diffusion fronts are presented including spatio-temporal pattern formation associated with the oscillatory catalytic CO oxidation on Pt. Recently we developed two new non-destructive microscopies in which reflected visible light is utilised either in an ellipso microscope for surface imaging (EMSI) or as a reflection anisotropy microscope (RAM). Both methods are capable of imaging sub-monolayer coverages of the reactants at arbitrary pressures.
