Photo-electron-emission from polymer films by u.v. irradiation was investigated for the better understanding of the surface discharge mechanisms. Emitted electron current was measured for PE, PP, PS, and PETP. The results are as follows: • The number of electrons emitted was about 106 per irradiated area/sec. • It was found that materials containing benzene muclei tend to emit many electrons. • The threshold energy for electron emission for each material was determined as 5.5 eV, approximately.
