Potential of on board information systems for ashore ship management and logistics processes

摘要

This paper depicts the potential of implementing a holistic maritime information concept to fulfill the information needs of further shore side stakeholders besides authorities. This is motivated by the theory of information management, which is applied on the maritime domain. The paper includes a brief appraisal of maritime information systems and infrastructure including its current developments as well as an initial analysis of the information needs from non-governmental maritime stakeholders. As a starting point for a holistic maritime information concept, the preliminary work and the augmentation possibilities of the e-Navigation architecture are highlighted.
