Precise determination of thermal conductivity of porous media or soils in particular is vital inrnperforming analysis and modeling operations in a range of fields of engineering, agriculture, hydrology etc.rnDepending on the type, thermal properties and medium temperature, steady state or transient techniques arernemployed to obtain the thermal conductivity of soils. Although several studies have been carried out in thernpast to assess the suitability and accuracy of each technique, there is an evident lack of assessment of therntwo methods for a wide range of soil types as well as verification of the results against widely applicable soilrnthermal conductivity prediction models. In this document, the result of thermal conductivity study on threernfine-grained and five coarse-grained soils analyzed using steady state and transient techniques in a two-phaserndry soil condition is presented. The steady state and transient measurements of each soil are further comparedrnwith the prediction of seven models of soil thermal conductivity and the suitability as well as the accuracy ofrnboth methods is assessed.
