In this study, the coatability of powder metallurgy parts by PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technique was investigated. Commercially available Fe and Cu powders were compacted at different pressures and sintered to obtain PM (Powder Metal) parts. These parts and rolled Cu, and transmission steel were coated by TiN with PVD and the coatability of the PM parts was compared with the above materials. Coating interfaces were investigated by scanning electron microscopy. Coating thickness depending on coating conditions and type of materials were determined. Higher surface roughness of the PM parts increased the coating surface area and more coating materials were used compared to rolled samples.
