Abstract: Aerodynamic headlamp lenses have presented several challenges and opportunities to the automotive lighting community in terms of Computer Aided Optical Design, Raytrace simulation, Visualization of end parts and communication of optics information to tool shops. This paper will examine existing practices of headlamp lens design and describe a new optics automation tool (FALCON) which effectively integrates design, simulation, visualization and optics manufacturing using IGES. It will conclude with the benefits of automating optical lens design.!3
