INTEGRATION OF AOI IN A TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Implementation of automatic optical inspection in printedrncircuit board assembly processes has been incremental andrnfragmented in many cases, leading to underutilization of therntechnology. A model is described based upon therninstallation of an integrated AOI solution encompassingrnbench top and in line systems at different manufacturingrnstages, and includes off line programming, inspection,rndefect verification, data integration, and line balancing andrncontrol. Evaluation of optimal location(s) of AOI is alsorncritical, and correlation of results in operations where it isrnused at multiple stages can assist significantly in processrnoptimization. Flexibility and scaling are also issues inrnenvironments where there is rapid change in requirements.
