Damping Loss Factor Estimation Method by Using Finite Element Method in Statistical Energy Analysis

This paper describes an approach of vibration energy prediction in Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA). It is of great importance to estimate the SEA parameters called coupling loss factor and damping loss factor in order to predict the vibration energy. In this study, the damping loss factor is estimated by modal strain energy method in the Finite Element Method (FEM). Furthermore, the estimated loss factor is applied in the analysis to predict the vibration energy using SEA. We compared the prediction results with the experimental results and confirmed the validity of the estimated damping loss factor. By using the FEM approach, the damping loss factor can be estimated by simulation to predict vibration energy in the design phase without the test model.
