Random array has better resolution and precision for identifying moving noise sources thanlinear or cross array. Based on character analysis and simulation of random arrays withdifferent configurations, the evaluation criterions and design object of two-dimensional randomarray are proposed, and a random array generation method to locate the noise sources onmoving vehicles is presented. It consists of array unit partition, base_line filter and evaluationfilter. Using this method, the generating speed of random target array improves greatly and thearray has much better performance than a crossed array. Furthermore, the effectiveness of thismethod is proved by identifying actual noise sources on a passenger car.
