Thermal aspects for face grinding of ceramics

To meet the increasing demand on the quality and cost of precision structural components, extensivernstudies on high efficiency and precision machining of ceramic materials, including face grinding, have beenrnconducted over the past several years. In the present study, experiments of face grinding two typical ceramicsrnwere carried out to study themal aspects at the wheel-workpiece contact zone. According to the experimentalrnresults and the comparison of theoretic and measured temperature profiles, temperature characteristics andrnmechanism of energy partition in face grinding of ceramic materials were discussed. Temperature rise in thernworkpiece and energy partition during the grinding process were found to be derictly related to the machiningrnparameters and the mechanism of mateirial removal.
