Different methods for the preparation of Novel Lewis-Acid Catalysts (NLACs) consistingof ionic liquids immobilised on mesoporous support materials are presented. A comparisonbetween materials bonded the carrier via the inorganic anion and those bonded via the organiccation of the ionic liquid is given. Latter can be prepared either by grafting of the cation or bythe preparation of organically modified HMS. After addition of aluminium(III)chloride thematerials were used as catalysts, e.g. in Friedel-Crafts alkylations, in which they displayedhigh activities and selectivities.
