ITS FOR EXPO2005 AICHI JAPAN(EFFECTIVE USE OF ITS AT EXPO AICHI)

The 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, or EXPO AICHI, is expected to attract 15 millionrnvisitors over the duration. The Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition has set thernestimated number of visitors per day to 150,000, and prepares various transport plans byrntrains, private cars, and buses. Traffic congestion due to private cars and concentration onrnspecific railroad routes are, however, expected, making dispersion and balancing of transportrnare major issues. To resolve these issues, we will develop various systems, taking fullrnadvantage of ITS technology. These systems are (1) "Support navigation system", whichrnmakes use of mobile phones, (2) "Parking guidance system", which utilizes the VehiclernInformation and Communication System (VICS) and variable guidance signs that showrnParking availability information, (3) "Bus location system", which adopts the MobilernOperation Control Systems(MOCS) and Public Transportation Priority Systems (PTPS), andrn(4) "Total traffic information center system", which provides traffic information throughrnvarious media, such as mobile phones, PCs, and large-scale screens.rnWe will concentrate all efforts to develop these ITS to provide smooth and safe visitorrntransportation to the Exposition site and eventually make EXPO AICHI successful.
