Abstract-A theoretical study of the noise characteristics in surface acoustic wave (SAW) and bulk acoustic wave (BAW) oscillators is presented . Based on the analysis of crystal oscillator noise, an expression for the oscillators noise is obtained . With this expression the BAW and SAW noise are characterized Comparative study has been carried out, which indicates the superiority of the SAW oscillators at higher frequencies Thus SAW devices can eliminate the need for a multiplier (which are necessary with BAW devices) and this generally leads to more compact devices consuming less power The computer simulation results are verified by compnrison with published experimental results and good agreement is obtained.
