In the congested condition during rush hours, the Automatic Fare Collection Gates (AFCGs) must let the passengers pass as quickly as possible. On the other hand, reliability is indispensable to the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) because the tickets are worth notes. Therefore, both high performance and high reliability are required for the system. However, the system had a problem; the more quickly the system runs, the lower the reliability gets. The system uses wireless communications between an Integrated Circuit (IC) card and an AFCG and they are unstable due to the manual operations by the passengers. For the applications, "Autonomous Decentralized Algorithm on the Fare Calculation with an IC Card and AFCGs" is proposed to achieve the high performance and "Autonomous Decentralized Data Consistency Technology" is for the high reliability. These technologies have been introduced into the real system and are performing very well.
